Members TheAxeMan Posted January 25, 2005 Members Posted January 25, 2005 I always had trouble when tapping with my right hand(ala Van Halen). I couldn't get the note to sound well and pulling off didn't sound well either. So instead of tapping on and push downward. I tap and pull upward a little, not too much. I noticed one hell of a difference for me when I did it. Maybe that's proper technique, but Im not much of a metal player so hell if i know. Just thought I'd share.
Members soc_monki Posted January 25, 2005 Members Posted January 25, 2005 i do that too...just did some tapping to check and yep, i pull up...and i always thought i had an unusual technique...VH always tapped with his index finger, and always held the pick with his middle and ring...or something like that. that always felt weird to me, and slow. so i either tap with my pick (gives a harder-edged sound) or my middle finger (which ive seen many people do, like Zakk Wylde...) it just seemed quicker and easier than moving the pick and using the index finger...
Members Jerry248 Posted January 25, 2005 Members Posted January 25, 2005 I pull upwards when tapping too. So does Eddie VH if I'm correct. Kirk Hammett is actually one of the few that doesn't, so I've heard.
Members TornadoShaunUK Posted January 27, 2005 Members Posted January 27, 2005 I pull down but I use my thumb to do so. I doubt many others do it and Im not sure whether I should learn how to do it with a more commonly used finger or just keep going how I am doing it.. =/
