Members Epiprone Posted February 2, 2005 Members Posted February 2, 2005 Hi Everyone! I find that in order to keep clear of the high E string when playing a chord in first position (such as a C chord), not only do I have to come down with my index finger nearly vertical on the B string just below it, but the nail has to be trimmed way back, to the point where there is almost no white edge. I would say it has to be trimmed back every 5 days. I don't have this problem with the other fingers, because the tip is solid well past the nail's edge. Is this typical for a lot of you guys? Do you frequently have to trim back the index finger?
Members bobthemerciful Posted February 2, 2005 Members Posted February 2, 2005 Yup. And I have to do all of 'em or it gets really annoying.
Members LDF Posted February 3, 2005 Members Posted February 3, 2005 I actually don't ever have that problem since I incessently bite my nails. But I do wear down my other hand because of how much I strum with my index fingernail.

Members sonrise Posted February 4, 2005 Members Posted February 4, 2005 I keep clippers in all my cases, because if I feel my fingernail on the fretboard at all, it freaks me out...

I keep one on my keychain. I have longer nails on my right hand for fingerstyle playing. Occasionally, there might be a small tear on one and keeping the clippers on me at all times helps to keep damage in check at all times.
