Members hannibal Posted March 14, 2005 Members Posted March 14, 2005 i have been playing for quite awhile, but i have very little understanding of scales ,forming chords . i can play tons of chords and some scales ,but i would like to understand it all better. where would be a good starting point?
Members raggety Posted March 14, 2005 Members Posted March 14, 2005 i am in the same boat really. so lately i have been learning theory to increase my knoewledge. a few of the things i have learned :a Major chord is made from the 1st. 3rd. and 5th degrees of a scale. so to get the note of C in the key of C it would beC D E F G A B1 2 3 4 5 6 7C. E. G.=C1. 3. 5.=CAdding the 7th note of the scale (B) gives you a Major7 chordC. E. G. B.=Cmaj71. 3. 5. 7.=Cmaj7a minor chord is made from the 1st. flattened3rd. and 5th notes of a scale. so to get the note of Cm in the key of C it would beC D Eb F G A B1 2 3 4 5 6 7C. Eb. G.=Cm1. 3b. 5.=CmAnd i think this theory holds true for every chord? Anyway if you print out this little device {you only really need the first 2 images, not the harmonica key indicator} you can work out the structure of any chord imaginable. http://www.angelfire.com/music/harmonica/intervalsfifths.html
