Members FearTheVoices Posted March 11, 2005 Members Posted March 11, 2005 What are some of the most highly effective excersises to build control of your picking ?
Members Forbidden-Donut Posted March 13, 2005 Members Posted March 13, 2005 playing 3 note per string excercises/scales usually helps with that and pentatonics

Ive been able to play that easily for 15yrs now. But its when i wanna solo or what not my BPM drops to about 95:( Now should i be using the same picking style that im using for playing riffs like that(I dont know/crazy are pretty easy for me on rythym) but when i solo i can only do about 95bpm.

You might want to try my 'speed' series of threads that are here in the Lesson Loft. http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=3083694&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descendingand since the older threads have corrupted attachments, I uploaded them again to the following thread:http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=833603

What 16nth's at 95bpm?Sounds like you need to work on your string crossing and legato(hammer-pull). I tend to use strict alternate picking, when I pick, there are other methods though. Practice playing 16nths and change strings on the and of every beat to get started. Skip strings,6 to 4,5 to 3,ect. The old 1234,4321 exercise picking only the first note in each group.
Members daFunkyUnit Posted March 17, 2005 Members Posted March 17, 2005 may I suggest the opening riff of Sweet Child o' Mine by GnR? using alternate picking, of course.
Poparad Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 This one really helped out my string skipping with alternate picking:Take each of those and move them to the other two string groups (1-4, 2-5, 3-6), and then move them up the fretboard.I usually start with the first and move it down the string groups, then shift up a fret and play the second one and move it up the string groups, etc.Picking is strickly up, down, up, down. It really helped out my accuracy while jumping around.
