Still I'm going to give some tips: 1) Get a good teacher. You always ask a lot of questions on these forums, but we can't see what you're doing wrong... 2) Get a good pick for single note stuff: Dunlop JazzIII or similar. 3) I think your problem is not with the time you put in the practice, but with your focus during this practice. Play simple things really slow, and focus on every detail: the way you hold your pick (find out what works best), whether up- and downstrokes sound even (timing and sound), your posture and muscle tension, etc... I've been working on my picking technique lately, and I found that I have really progressed with just a few short, but very focussed and very slow practice sessions. You can do these exercises: -the 1234 chromatic stuff -standard diatonic scales (3 notes per string) -pentatonic scales (2 notes per string) -arpeggios (1-2 notes per string) -some exercises where you skip strings You can be very creative with these exercises, just think up your own variations: start with upstrokes instead of downstrokes, play 6 notes per beat, play a scale but skip the a,g,e strings, play 2 notes ascending and 1 descending, whatever... And vary the metronome speed of course. Just do it all slowly, focussed and with a metronome. And if you find yourself getting sloppy, do it even slower.
