Members VanHalen5150 Posted April 30, 2005 Members Posted April 30, 2005 I was reading alot of sites about riff forming and its all soooooo confusing. I need a simple way of telling me what i need in order to form a riff. I know that you need chord patterns but i don't know how they are formed or made? You need to know scales and within the scales are chord patterns? You can mix single notes (witnin the scales) and chord patterns? i just want to know what chord patterns are and what site can best give me an illustration of some chord patterns, also i'd like to know if you can just make a riff out of single notes within a particular scale and if you can mix single notes with chord patterns to create a riff. And how all of this is done and appied to riff making. Thanks, God Bless you all

Do you know the pentatonic scales? If so you can write riffs in that.
