Members troycha1 Posted May 4, 2005 Members Posted May 4, 2005 I've been playing guitar for three years. Played a lot of other people's music and written a lot of my own but I don't have a good understanding of chord structure, chord progressions and the different modes. Anyways, I just graduated from college and I have a lot of time on my hands while I'm looking for a job. What do you believe is the best book for teaching and reference of the things i mentioned above? You know... a bible of sorts. Thanks in advanced.
Members uberpict Posted May 4, 2005 Members Posted May 4, 2005 Actually it's the opposite of a "bible" called The Guitar Grimoire and is an excellent source for chords, scales and modes. Another thing I've found is the Guitar Codex which I found at cyberfret.com, look in the scales and chords section.
Members Little Dreamer Posted May 4, 2005 Members Posted May 4, 2005 Bruce Arnold's book Theory Workbook for Guitar Volume I, Interval and Chord Construction does a good job with chords. Volume 2 covers scales and modes. I learned a lot from those. This place http://www.zentao.com/guitar/theory/ does a great job of it as well.

Members LDF Posted May 6, 2005 Members Posted May 6, 2005 I'm not sure if I'd call it a Bible, but do you at least have a copy of The Complete Guitarist or The Guitar Handbook? These two cover all the basics and a little beyond of what you'd need to know about the guitar and how to play it. I still refer to it from time to time when I forget stuff that I should know. It's that kind of book.
