Members bizz Posted June 17, 2005 Members Posted June 17, 2005 when i am doing scales, pentatonic specifically, it seems like my pinkie is being used more than my index finger. Does this sound correct? It makes sense in terms of where the notes are in each position, but does it make sense in terms of our index finger being more agile than our pinkies and therefore should we use the index more frequently? I love using my pinkie and want it to be very agile, but sometimes i think i would be much better at hitting certain notes or hammer-on/ pull-offs if i used my index more. So where do i draw the distinction? is there a correct way? if i am playing something on the high E string and fret on 5 and 7 should i use fingers 1 and 3, or 2 and 4. do you now what i mean?
Members UnderTheGroove Posted June 17, 2005 Members Posted June 17, 2005 The general rule is to use one finger per fret when playing scale patterns. If you look at the scale patterns you will notice that the majority of the notes are in a 4 fret area. You will need to shift positions or stretch to reach notes outside of the 4 fret area.
