Members tropics Posted June 29, 2005 Members Posted June 29, 2005 For those around 10 years old who dont listen to music really. My one likes Elvis and i show him that along with what i teach most of my kids: beatles songs, but i think theyre getting a little tired of it. i want to mix it up
Members TheBlueGuy Posted June 29, 2005 Members Posted June 29, 2005 There are tons of songs from the 60s and 70s with simple, catchy riffs - Smoke on the Water, Black Night, Sunshine of Your Love, the Peter Gunn theme, Satisfaction, Wild Thing, and so on. The 80s and 90s had a bunch too - Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Money For Nothing, Enter Sandman, Sweet Child O' Mine, etc. Dig around a bit. Do a search online for hits from the 80s and 90s and I'm sure you'll come up with a whole heap.
Members axeman79 Posted July 6, 2005 Members Posted July 6, 2005 I think no matter how old/young a kid is, Iron Man is a most know! easy, and everyone's heard it. What kind of music do they like? you should learn some songs they like, then teach them. My dad use to try and teach me some old boogy tunes, but they did get old and repetitive after a while.
Members adamsj Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Try stuff like "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" and other kids' music, "Yankee Doodle," "Star Spangled Banner," songs like that that even the youngest kids would have heard before, etc. My son is 4 and he's all over that stuff on the piano. Guitar's a little harder, but I've got two 9-year old students and they're both fine with those kind of songs.
