I'm by no means a shredder, but I like to sweep arpeggios every now and then to warm my hands and fingers up, and I'm just sort of wondering how to clean them up? I have noticed that I sort of accelerate towards the middle of it and slow down towards the end... is there a trick to forcing myself to maintain an even pace?

My other problem is with hammer-ons or pull-offs in any place in the arp besides in the very beginning or very end... I seem to pause every time, which might be why my arps start off slow, build up, and then slow down towards the end... I guess the easy answer is just to use a metronome, but is there anything else?

As nice as it would be to have a simple answer of "do this insteand and you'll get it right away," most problems we face in playing will only be solved by putting more time into practicing it. This is almost always true for technique, but applies to other areas as well.

So as trying on the patiences as it is, just keep taking it slowly with a metronome at a comfortable tempo until you get it totally smooth. It's very important that you're able to identify things like "I'm speed up on the middle strings" because then you know what you need to do to correct it.

So, basically, just keep at it with the metronome at a comfortable tempo until it's solid, then speed things up from there.
