Members wanky Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 When i play van halen style taps i never get this issue, but when i tap on the high E string only, the other strings start making sounds i don't want cuaseing excesive feedback when my amp is cranked. And its not becuase im hitting those other strings by accident, they just start vibrating and making feedback when i tap on the high E. I dont get this problem when i play at low volumes. What should i do? What am i doing wrong?
Members Virgman Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 At high volume nobody will know the difference.
Members Auggie Doggie Posted October 9, 2005 Members Posted October 9, 2005 You just need to mute the strings you aren't using with one or both of your hands.
Members buddastrat Posted October 9, 2005 Members Posted October 9, 2005 Yeah you gotta mute all the other strings out. That's for all type of playing at loud, high gain volumes. Sympathetic vibrations will occur. You can cheat and gate it, lots of guys have been doing this lately. Some put a pony tail holder up around the first fret and that will kill the vibrations. Try that, but you should learn to do it with your hands.
Members MorePaul Posted October 9, 2005 Members Posted October 9, 2005 Wanky; It sounds as if touchstyle is becoming a big interest to youtry www.tappistry.org - they are a completely touchstyle community. If you are mainly familiar with the likes of EVH, you are in for quite a treat as there is a whole body of touchstyle technique and work in the touchstyle world

Members AJ6stringsting Posted October 22, 2005 Members Posted October 22, 2005 Use both hands to mute those strings at the bridge and the free(fingers not used in tapping)to deaden the other stings not being freted.Using both hands to mute those non-freted strings is double assurance of having clean sounds when tapping.Trust me ,I've been doing 8 fingered tapping(2 handed tapping)since the early 80's.
