Members mysterybat35 Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Hi, Its seems like to me that it is almost impossible to do really fast and accurate soloing on guitar without tremolo picking. The only thing I don't like about tremolo picking is that my solos don't sound fluid enough. They sound too choppy. Is there any other way to play really fast and accurate without the tremolo picking method? Just wondering. Thanks. MB35

Tremolo picking it where you stay on one one for a while picking it fast, like as fast as the tempo or as fast as you can. But, to do a lick tremolo picking would be like when Eddie Van Halen picks one note at a time on one string really fast moving up the fretboard. Alternate picking is used when playing a fast lick...a succession of notes, or across strings...as in a speed picking lick. Don't know if any of that make sense...but can you clarify you 'tremolo' term? Just to see where you are coming from.

Check out the "10 minute legato guitar demonstration" right below this thread...he demonstrates the hammer on and pull off, and he gives a thorough explanation too.
Members Bassified Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 alternate picking or pick once and fret 5 different notes from the first pick. hammer ons and pull offs always work.
Members Jeff_Reigns Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Sounds like you're talking about Alternate Picking... It'll sound better, nearly everyone who's blazingly fast uses it. It just takes practice.

Members bongfodder Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Slow down a bit, maybe that'll help. You can play 'legato' all day but there's a chance it'll end up sounding like bull{censored} if you don't also alternate pick.

I use alt picking if i want to sound more 'aggressive'. The reason alot of legato playing you'll hear sounds like 'bull{censored}' is because alot of people do it as a cop out - it's hard to perfectly syncronise left hand fretting and right hand picking at speed - so many don't bother. The only problem is that they also don't bother making sure their legato notes have the an even and controlled attack with all fingers - so notes will ring out unevenly, some will just dissappear etc. etc.
