Members scott(ish) Posted February 28, 2006 Members Posted February 28, 2006 I'm trying to learn how to write standard notation so that when i come up with a song/riff/melody i can write it down. can anyone help me with how to notate more complex rythyms? , well they seem complex to me.I'm talking about rythyms that combine 1/2notes 1/4 notes 1/8th notes 1/16th notes and rests. Some melodys are just too hard for me to write down because of the rythym of it. I wrote down some melodys and then put them into finale notepad(a program that you can write in standard notation and it'll play back what you put in) but the rythym was WAY wrong. can anyone help me out?
Members gennation Posted February 28, 2006 Members Posted February 28, 2006 Try Power Tab Software. It let's you put the notes in as tab...then mess with then staff notes to place them correctly rhythm wise. I to have issues with writing/reading rhythms, and I had 5 years of drum lessons/reading...but that was many many moons ago. I've just started trying again.
Members lazaraga Posted February 28, 2006 Members Posted February 28, 2006 i draw up a page of measures, with little marks for the beats and subdivisions. i follow along with the music and make a little dot wherever there is an attack. then i go back and finish the notation. peace
Members UnderTheGroove Posted February 28, 2006 Members Posted February 28, 2006 Before you can write it down, you need to be able to hear what the rhythm of the music is. Start off by identifying more basic rhythms. Listen to and identify some quarter and 8th note grooves that are repetitive. Then you can move on to more difficult rhythms.
Members jazzbo Posted February 28, 2006 Members Posted February 28, 2006 Rhythmic Training by Robert Starer will help you to read, and therefore notate your own, rhythms.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0769293751/qid=1141148725/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/104-7513630-4099156?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
