Members Auggie Doggie Posted March 27, 2006 Members Posted March 27, 2006 ...was Pierre Rode. He lived from 1774-1830, and his 'magnum opus' was his (stop me if you've heard this title before) 24 Caprices for Solo Violin. While his name is still pretty well-known in violin circles, Rode never attained the celebrity of Paganini. Paganini is often thought of as THE composer of solo violin caprices; those who came before him are generally overlooked and/or forgotten. Rode's work is in the French style, as opposed to the very Italian Paganini. It's not as 'exotic' sounding, or quite as flashy, but it's got teeth! ---> I've attached my transcription of his 7th caprice, which is a guitarist's wet dream when it comes to application of various techniques. Alternate picking (economy in some places if that's your thing), sweeps, slurs, staccato, etc., all in one piece for your practicing pleasure! The tempo is left up to you, though the edition I transcribed suggested MM=126 (which is movin'!). note: I had to leave out things like the title and page numbering in order to keep the file small enough to upload here. The measures are numbered so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out which page is which. Enjoy!
