I'm learning to play for recreation. The "learning to play" is what I do for fun. I'm weird that way.

Played for a living from 1977 to 1990, then some. Used to play all over touring the country. Also, I've been teaching since about 1982 or so.

Don't really do either right now.

Been 'retired' since the early 90's.

I'm a senior network and system engineer at a large ISP...don't mess with me or I'll take your Internet away ;)

Been married for 20 years, have 4 kids, and have everything else that goes along with all that.

Before...

Here's a great live video from 1985, I'm on the left. This was the FIRST song on the night.

After...

Here's a live improv from 2000 or so.

I've never played or worked with music for a living. I've always had a guitar and strummed out 3 chord pop songs for about 30 years but about 6 years ago I got interested in playing the "poppy" jazz repertoire. I started just trying to improve by playing more complex tunes - grabbing changes from the net and trying to add in passing tones to make it more interesting. Now that I'm happily retired I pass an hour or two a day pretending I can play and have Ella or Billie singing in my head while I accompany them :)

Music student, guitar teacher, semi-professional jazz musician.
In that, I rarely play gigs. I get paid when I do. It's not my music, and I wouldn't listen to it for money. I don't really consider myself a "musician" yet, but I get paid occaisionally for playing!

Guess I should chime in on the original question,

I'm a machinist at a major medical supply. I'm 7 or 8 months into learning to play guitar and trying to get a little three piece band together for the fun of it. Maybe want to play a local bar every other week or so.

Married and with four kids and a full time job. And trying to fit the guitar in there somewhere!

Gennation,

Hah! Looks like you were having a blast in 1985... Exploding fire.. the whole bit.

I really liked your improv solo... That was extremely cool. What kind of guitar was that you were playing? I couldn't make out the body.

I'm an unemployed guitar player. Actually that implies I was employed at one time (not so), so I guess you could say my job playing around on the guitar. Unfortunately that doesn't feed the familia so I subsidize by finding new and creative ways to string 1's and 0's together.

I'm confident however, that I will find a lonely, tonedeaf, elderly millionaire heiress willing to pay handsomely for daily serenades. I could definitely see myself doing that.

I play for fun. I have written some poetry, tilted toward a musical pace when read.

I am married 13 yrs, no kids, 1 dog (15 yrs old), 1 cat (3 yrs old). I work to a telephone co-op, serving a rural area.

College student (not for music, although I spend far more time studying music than I do on my schoolwork), house painter and sometime-working musician. I play in an original rock band that plays paying gigs on a regular basis, but I can't say I'm making a living off of music yet. I also teach guitar to a few students and do occasional paid and unpaid solo accoustic gigs.
