finding my singing voice

help!

I bought a book on fixing speaking/singing voice issues through breathing and training out bad habits but I don't know how to classify my problems to begin excersizes.

I have severe limits to my voice unless I want to go really high pitched.

Here is a shy mp3 of me just playing guitar and singing. I would appreciate any help.. maybe feedback such as "you've got a gravel voice" so I know how to fix that.

I know it's terrible, I just don't know where to start. Very frustrating. If I could sing or fly.. well I'd fly because then I could crap on hummers. but if I could sing that would be a close second.

Ok Im only an 18 year old kid in a rock band who sangfor the school group. but i did learn alot.
1. you dont sound confident: Just give it every thing you got.

2. Your Sining in your head: Sing from your belly and open your mouth a little not like a Chior singer but a little.

3. Your forcing it. You are trying to sing with emotion with the wavering of your voice, but the emotion isnt there. My friend dose this. he want a particular tone and style of voice so he makes his voice raspy and dark but thats not what he should do. so to fix this just use your voice its what you were born with. You cant change it

I guess im saying just be you and open your voice up.

oh yea and use more diction. pronounce your words better.

But be carefull you dont want to sing to properly. if you go to hit higher notes you just have to wail

do you drive? alone?

I find singing along to stuff in the car is a great way of establishing where you can go with singing. Primarily because no-one else can hear you and that whole nerves thing won't happen. If you're holding back because you're afraid of sounding like that guy from police academy (zed?) then the car singing should build your confidence. Put on your favourite cd or even the radio. Try to sing from your belly.. your throat shouldn't hurt when you sing, singing from your diaphram will prevent this.I hope this helps a bit. good luck
