I normally avoid being musical on the clips I make here, since I don't want to influence peoples style, only help them develop the skills to fully express themselves in their own style, hence the lack of musical substance in much of the clips I post.

This clip abandons technical display for a little bit of soulfullness and feel.;)

Best thing you've posted so far though.

You're so funny, but you know, despite putting everybody on about things, you aren't such a bad person at heart, but you ought not pretend to have a clue about anything other than what you like to hear, and how you'd play it, if you could play it.

You have a right to express your opinion, but nobody cares and nobody should care. If you think you know what music is supposed to sound like in every circumstance, situation and form, then why don't you start putting out albums and set the world straight about just exactly how one should play and demonstrate the right way to play everything and do what every other musician in the world of any worth has miserably failed at trying to do.

Reminds me of an old joke:

How many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb?

Twelve. One to change the bulb and eleven to say they could do it better.

Nice clip. The guitar sound was a bit thin sounding, though. Too much treble?

Not saying I could do it better. I suck. But the thread title was "playing musicially" and all he did was play the same scales he always plays but plays them slower. Is that what melodic means?

I don't really mind people playing the same scales over and over again. It's not the scales, but the music you create with them.

Many people make careers out of playing the same scales over and over again, and making some nice music with those scales. Just my opinion. :)

Well Mr. Hall of Fame, your opinion is crap. If your idea of "music" is running down scales, it just goes to show that you are not very creative or musical. Someone who is creative and can express themselves in musical ways, is not going to sit there and play scale exercises. It's extremely amature. P51 has been playing the same thing for the last 10+ years. His playing hasn't gone anywhere. I am here to knock people off their high pedistals. Why do people post clips of themselves? To show off? To ask for help? I'm not impressed by the clip and I gave advice that I believe could be extremely beneficial, but p51 has his head stuck up his ass too far and is afraid to learn something from someone younger than him. Careers of playing scales? Those days are over my friend. Yngwie was the 80's welcome to the year 2006. Why are you still playing those same god damn repetative scales? No innovation what so ever. No wonder we all sound the same. I think people get caught up in the image of a rock star and really forget about the music. They just want to impress people but it's nothing new. Too macho to take advice? Then don't post your {censored}ing clips and expect us to bow down and throw out the compliments. Why don't you post something Eddie. P51 and I go way back, we were in class at Berklee together.

The clip was good so why do you have to argue about it? Imo it's stupid to say that someone is playing too many notes since everyone has a unique style and that's something other people shouldn't try to change.

People like different kind of music so telling someone that his music has too much this and that is as stupid as going nuts over criticism that should be expected if you're ready to post your own stuff here.

Coming from you I take it as a compliment. Thanks :)

Regarding most of your post, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about or the process you go through to draw conclusions. Running down scales? Wow!

As far as Yngwie is concerned, I don't think I've heard anything by him. I've heard some stuff by Satriani, Vai, Uli Roth. et al., but nothing by Yngwie. I have zero interest in him or his music.

And you know I'm playing repetitive scales without ever listening to me? You're amazing.

Rock star? Your view of the world is too narrow.

A drummer in one of my earlier bands went to Berklee. He also had trouble enjoying music.

And I can't post my clips. I just started playing a week ago and only know part of the major scale. Next year, if I practice a lot, I will learn the minor scale.

Time to go run down the scales,m and adjust my calendar to 2006

Hmmh, I think I don't have anything to use for recording. But the fact is you should use a metronome or better yet, play along with the records. That way you should be able to keep up the rhythm and spot the wrong notes you play.

Don't get me wrong. The clip was ok. I enjoy listening to Metallica played with an acoustic but the rhythm wasn't perfect. The Fade to Black verse riff was good.

I think you're better at criticizing than playing. I did like the intro to the RHCP tune. I could not listen to more than 30 seconds of the Metallica video.

Still, I do hope you grow up both as a player and as a person. Maybe you could become a music critic.

Best wishes. :)

By the way, notice that both the 8-bar blues and the jingle-like tune both use the same chord progression, but they are played at different speeds. That had an influence on the notes I chose for the lead parts. ;)

And even though they were simply ideas to try a Godin guitar and Guitar Rig, I would say it takes more creativity to compose these types of clips than to play a cover. I do like covers though. The House Band is great.

Herb Ellis, Jim Hall, Les Paul, BB King have all played the exact same licks for almost 50 years.

Steve Morse, Eddie Van Halen, Alvin Lee, Jimi Hendrix all play pretty much the same thing every other tune.

Nothing wrong with them.
