Members Bad B. Posted August 31, 2006 Members Posted August 31, 2006 Hello. im working a little bit with the number called "smile" by Charlie Chaplin. The first 8 bars goes like this: / G / G / G / G / G / Gdim / Am7 / E7 / so my question is: do you know some substitution chords for G chords. I've figure you could play G6 or G6/9 instead of just G. But its a little bit borring just hitting one chord for five bars. Do some of you know some other chords you could use instead?
Members Santuzzo Posted August 31, 2006 Members Posted August 31, 2006 Hi, one possibility might me alternating between G and D7sus (or D9sus).....This usually works fine, sure does with "smile"....So it would be like this : G69 / D9sus / Gmaj7 / D9sus / G/B or Bm7 / Bbdim7 ....etc. This is how I might play it.Hope this helps, Lars

Yeah, that's a possibility, you could also add a 13, that would bex55557 going to x55555. you could also play the Gmaj chords with D in the bass, then you have the D for the first couple of bars in the bass. Other options for the Dsus chord :10x1098x10x10981010x10987 for the last one you will have to play the D bass note with your thumb. Lars
