Keep your finger stiff and control the vibrato from the arm rather than the finger movement. A good practice once you have the vibrato is to alow the note to ring normaly before aplying vibrato.

When playing vibrato, I learned to rotate my wrist, like you're using a screwdriver, or turning a doorknob, only faster. If you ever watch a video of BB, that's exactly what he does. That way, you're not jerking your forearm up and down, and your vibrato will come out a lot smoother and more effortless. And as was said, practice and time put in.

does the majorit of the motion come from the wrist (ie. driven by the wrist) or from the arm/elbow?

Also, should I keep my thumb on the guitar (I normally have it on the back of the neck, or even thumbed atop the top of the neck), or should i let the whole thumb disconnect from the neck?

Thanks guys!

Wrist, and I sometimes remove the thumb, other times use it on the back of the neck, depending on the string and how high up the neck I am.

When I use vibrato, my forearm and elbow barely move.

hey guys,

So I sat down and have been at it for the past hour, and I have already made much improvement. Me likes what I'm hearing!

So far, I have the vibrato factor going for my index finger; not much love with my other fingers though.
