Members Walters9515 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Members Posted April 5, 2007 why do scales with minor second intervals SOUND chromatic or angular?
Poparad Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 why do scales with minor second intervals SOUND chromatic or angular? The major scale has minor seconds, and in just about every song I've ever heard using it, there's not a whole lot of angularness going on, and it's certainly not "chromatic."
Members Walters9515 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Members Posted April 5, 2007 minor seconds= leading tonesminor seconds= tension
Members 1001gear Posted April 5, 2007 Members Posted April 5, 2007 True. Was that a riddle or something? With the exception of pentatonic, wholetone, and whatever custom scales that specifically omit m2nds, all scales have minor seconds. And I think angularity is a function of intervallic width and melodic contour, not any kind of harmonic tension per se.
Members WhiskeyClone Posted April 5, 2007 Members Posted April 5, 2007 I think he means scales for which the second note in the scale is a minor second above the tonic. Phrygian mode, for example.
Members Walters9515 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Members Posted April 5, 2007 angularity is a function of intervallic width and melodic contour, not any kind of harmonic tension Minor seconds are in melodies or scales which is angular Which MODES have minor seconds? Members 1001gear Posted April 6, 2007 Members Posted April 6, 2007 All the standard Greek modes have minor seconds. They have to they're all the same sequence of notes.

Members 1001gear Posted April 10, 2007 Members Posted April 10, 2007 +100000:thu: We need REAL musicians here, not retarded noobs! WHAT??? That would cripple the industry!#*!* Besides I prefer 9515 to the trollettes who just want a string of comps on their 'obvious' talent.
Members Zachman Posted April 10, 2007 Members Posted April 10, 2007 WHAT??? That would cripple the industry!#*!* Besides I prefer 9515 to the trollettes who just want a string of comps on their 'obvious' talent. NOT that those are the ONLY two possibilities, but... I prefer to have guys that are experienced with lots of different types of gear, playing live, recording, experience etc...so that their experience can help others avoid taking longer routes to success than necessary. The guys with the experience to help guys with tricks to avoid ground loops, impedance issues with lots of pedals, with knowledge of midi mapping and signal routing with rack effects tricks, wiring of guitars etc... The idea of just having a gathering spot to hang out and shoot the {censored}, is what the open jam forum is for.
Members 1001gear Posted April 10, 2007 Members Posted April 10, 2007 Yeah if only. I'm all for good technical, pro information too. I guess HC is making changes - or at least trying to bring about change. Musicians however, will be musicians. I don't follow Walters around so when he does show up here or at the drum forum there's no vendetta reflex goin' on. It's always hilarious how his threads evolve.
