Members Gilbertgrape Posted April 17, 2007 Members Posted April 17, 2007 I don't seem to have the leverage to bar properly with my index finger. I can remedy this by barring with my the lower region of my finger close to my hand, but it's all weird with my finger sticking above the freboard. I have been told I have good piano and guitar playing fingers, but the power isn't there for barring. Any advice?

Members reidonius Posted April 17, 2007 Members Posted April 17, 2007 Reading some threads here and at EG lately, I think it would be worthwhile to have a sticky thread entitled "Practice," with a lone post that just says "Practice. Practice. Practice." It really is the answer.
Moderators Jed Posted April 17, 2007 Moderators Posted April 17, 2007 I agree with the other posts but will add one small idea - keep your mind open. Don't assume there is only one way to do something. Beginners often try to bar with the index flat to the fretboard - in actual practice most of us bar using the side of the index finger (for grand barres) so that the bones take the pressure rather than the muscles. I often curl my index so I can bar the high and low E strings at different frets (for maj7 drop-3 voicing root position)
