Members mercury2 Posted April 14, 2007 Members Posted April 14, 2007 any tips for doing this ? i have played for years with my thumb over the neck and have been practicing playing 'properly', I'm better now but pull offs feel awkward and slow compared to how I can do them with my thumb over the neck
Members captain average Posted April 14, 2007 Members Posted April 14, 2007 i'm guessing that pull-offs were awkward when you first learned them with the other technique also. keep working on it.
Members MahaAtTheVishnu Posted April 15, 2007 Members Posted April 15, 2007 It shouldn't matter where your thumb is - make sure that you are pulling off at an angle instead of lifting straight off.

Members MahaAtTheVishnu Posted April 15, 2007 Members Posted April 15, 2007 upwards or down? Towards the floor. what does angling lifting matter as opposed to directly up and off Yes, big time. When you pull off at an angle (I'm usually about 45 degrees) it pulls on the string, making it vibrate again, which is exactly what you want. That way you can keep a trill going without picking forever.
