Delay setting and using questions

hello

does anyone know wat is "Dotted 8th delay setting"?

and how to use it?

playing straight 8th notes?

 

in what kind of situation should i use long and short delay??

i am using DL4 and Boss DD-5

I can only answer your question by saying that I like to use the tap tempo feature for echo. I use echo for solos and long sustained chords. I think this is where your application comes in. In other words, when the delay has a relationship to your song tempo, the notes from the wet signal will have time values relative to the notes you play. The "wet notes" could be quarter, 8th, etc., depending on how you tap in the tempo. A dotted 8th setting on your delay would presumably cause your wet notes to be dotted 8ths, relative to the notes you play.

I'm sure others can give a more precise explanation, but I thought I'd take a shot.

I rarely use shorter delays. I think of slap back, when I think of shorter delays. This thickens the sound in my estimation. I'm not fond of it. Listen to Sid McGinnis on David Letterman. This is his signature sound IMO.
