Members Jawbreakerr Posted May 20, 2007 Members Posted May 20, 2007 maybe i should have kept this semi-secret to keep all the wankers off that messageboard but they have some really helpful sections. their musicians section is always full of information regarding theory and playing. theyve also added a music theory section. there is also an "ask the feautured musician" forum where you can ask question to different musicians. pat martino has a thread right now, its around 500 posts long, but man, its pretty amazing. pat has answered tons of questions.. hes even posted lead sheets to songs people had questions about. hes a really deep introspective dude. its worth checkin out, just to hear the man talk.
Members gennation Posted May 20, 2007 Members Posted May 20, 2007 I've been a member there for at least a year now and mentioned Martino's forum. Great place. There are some true pro people there so thread lightly (guys who have played with Mingus, arranged for many popular jazzers, the writer of the Mahavishnu book, etc...). They definitely want more people there but it's better left as is as an island of info. Kind of like TGP used to be.
Members astring Posted May 20, 2007 Members Posted May 20, 2007 I agree that they are much more serious over there, but if you ask a real question you can get answers that will make your brain hurt and give you 3 years worth of stuff to practice (not an exaraggeration). But for sure do not pretend to be a big shot over there because there are players of the highest order posting.
Members Virgman Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 Agreed. The Martino thread is very cool.
Members Stackabones Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 First-rate site. I don't think trolls get along too well over there. Most just get ignored. BTW, they have "Beyond Jazz" board which are similar to the Political Party forum around here. I avoid both. Generally, the music forums are about music! There's a 30 page Brazilian thread that blows my mind. I once posted a thread about the Isotope turnaround and got excellent info--one from a guy who'd been a group with the guy who wrote "Isotope"!!!
Members dsimon665 Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 Is that Pat Martino thread still going? Its pretty amazing to have someone like that answering everyone's questions on the internet. That reminds me...you guys should check out his cd "Tribute to Wes". I heard a track a few months ago but then forgot about the album. I need to check it out agan.http://www.bluenote.com/patmartino/
Members Virgman Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 Pat Martino is one of my favorites. Anybody know what kind of guitar he used to play years ago? It's a very ornate custom made job. Here's a picture:

Here's a picture: One of his fans made it for him. Hand carved one of a kind. edit: wait, why dont you just ask him yourself lol ;p
Members gennation Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 Pat talks about that guitar somewhere in his forum...as well as all of his musical concepts plus one-offs that aren't released, song analyzations, as well as sneak peeks to some of his stuff to soon be released.
Members Virgman Posted May 22, 2007 Members Posted May 22, 2007 I didn't want to ask him about that. Figured it's been brought up many times before. Thanks.
