Members loinmute Posted August 23, 2007 Members Posted August 23, 2007 i use a lot of vibrato, i think it's decent vibrato. i use whichever finger lands on the fret. i use alot of middle and ring finger vibrato. i never use more than one finger either. is this alright?
Members captain average Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 sure. it's your guitar. it's your sound. do what you want.
Members 1001gear Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 You may find reasons to discriminate - tone, fingering requirements etc. You shouldn't though exclude anything practical you can do comfortably.
Members 1001gear Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Well sure there's racism involved. With stuff like metal n s**t there simply is no place for slow, awkward, fingerings.
Members captain average Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 you're into that skinhead {censored}, aren't you?
Members 1001gear Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Nope. No tats. Not even white. And I find a lot of metal sophomoric at best. I do keep my hair crew cut though. Why?
Members blueEbola Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 If it's comfortable, then do it Personally I like to include the other fingers when doing a ring finger vibrato. Makes it much easier to do a wide one.
Members Jerry248 Posted August 24, 2007 Members Posted August 24, 2007 Do whatever your music requires. For ring-finger vibrato it's quite common to support it with the middle finger, but as long as it sounds good to you, and you're not hurting your fingers, using one finger is ok I guess.
Members guitarviz Posted August 25, 2007 Members Posted August 25, 2007 If you say that you usually only use one finger for vibrato, it sounds like maybe you don't do much bending? Since its real common to add vibrato to bent notes, and often you'll have supporting fingers helping bend the string.

Members guitarviz Posted August 25, 2007 Members Posted August 25, 2007 Well, if you're into rock or blues, check out videos of Hendrix SRV, etc. If they're using their middle or ring finger for vibrato, they're usually supporting it with more then one finger. Just gives you more strength to shake that string. But that's just them, like other people have replied here, its your thang, do what you wanna do

NO! You should cease doing this effective immediately!
Members RenegadeMinds Posted August 27, 2007 Members Posted August 27, 2007 When playing in front of a crowd, it's best to use the middle finger only when they really tick you off. If the crowd contains lots of hot, single women, then choose the ring finger provided that you don't have a wedding band on. Other than those two cases, it's ok to use any finger, provided that they are your own or that you have the permission of the person that they belong to.
