Members BobFromReboot Posted September 5, 2007 Members Posted September 5, 2007 Mostly standing, unless I'm reading sheet music, then I have to sit or I get a sore neck and bad posture.
Members 1001gear Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I stand or lie down. Rarely sit.
Members austinrocks Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I stand, I found that there are so many differences between sitting and standing, and standing I have better rhythm, sitting really has its problems in the long run, I like the laying down suggestion, that would make playing a les paul a lot easier.

Members Big Muff Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I always practice standing up. I think everyone who wants to play gigs should practice standing, there's a huge difference practicing sitting down.
Members captain average Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 that depends on whether i'm standing or sitting when i'm practicing. or lying down. occasionally i am floating weightless in which case any distinction would be a false one, but that's something that happens so rarely that it hasn't happened to me yet.
Mark Wein Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Both, although I try to set my guitar so that it is in the same position sitting down as standing...

Members jbviper4 Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 Standing up. Except with the acoustic, then I do the Jimmy Page and sit on a stool with my legs crossed and eyes closed.
Members alwaysharp Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 Stand. I also get way too into as if I'm actually playing a gig. lol It's kinda retarded, but fun. And it's definitely helped me with, not just my stage presence, but actually being able to play while I'm dancing around like a nut. I used to have to just stand around. If I started moving around or dancing I would totally screw up and not be able to play at all.

Members sumpm1 Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I only play while sitting on the toilet. I am at the mercy of "number 2."
Members alwaysharp Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 So you're saying to kinda do it like you would at a gig?Yes. That's exactly it. I found that I could sit down and wail all day. Then I got on stage and freakin sucked. I mean, I held my own. But, to play anything that was even remotely difficult I had to just stand there and stare at my fretboard. These days I'm much more free to move around and interact with the audience. Even when playing somewhat difficult passages. Plus, like I said earlier as well, it really is fun. Plug in and rock the eff out man. That's what it's for.
Members Puckman Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I tend to practice sitting down. I know at some point I need to be able to play standing up, but right now, anytime i try it, I find i suck even more than normal...
Members Mooska Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 I sit down during a serious practice, but stand when I wanna enjoy it. Not so much stand as turning my living room into a concert arena and pretending I'm a rock star, but thats another story.
Members alwaysharp Posted September 6, 2007 Members Posted September 6, 2007 Not so much stand as turning my living room into a concert arena and pretending I'm a rock star, but thats another story.I do. I love to crank my rig get the f#$k down. lol People are way too uptight. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't dance while playing my guitar. I mean, man. Whatever. lol
Members BobFromReboot Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 I'd like to add that I have my strap high enough so that the guitar isnt resting on my leg when I'm sitting so it has minimal effect when I change stance. I do need to start practicing jumping and playing at the same time and other assinine things of that nature.
Members Bigfiddle Posted September 7, 2007 Members Posted September 7, 2007 At home I sit. At rehearsal I both stand and use a Roc-N-Soc stool.
Members guitarpunkfreak Posted September 8, 2007 Members Posted September 8, 2007 sit..... but i should stand
