Members blahblah555 Posted January 30, 2008 Members Posted January 30, 2008 Anybody know of any free lessons that involve guitar preparation? Or have any tips for me from your humble selves? It seems like this isn't that mainstream to guitar playing as other things, so i need our help on this one. Thanks:thu:
Members Knottyhed Posted January 30, 2008 Members Posted January 30, 2008 Do you mean setting a guitar up? Therre's loads of information out there on the net...http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tutorial1.htm
Members captain average Posted January 30, 2008 Members Posted January 30, 2008 you mean like putting screws and bolts under the strings?
Members blahblah555 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Members Posted January 31, 2008 I guess i should have explained a little more....I mean placing foreign objects on a guitar to alter the guitars timbre in some way.
Members captain average Posted January 31, 2008 Members Posted January 31, 2008 that's what i meant by screws n {censored}. i know john cage did stuff like that. i don't know how you'd do that with a guitar, since a piano strings are parallell to the floor, while a guitr is perpendicular. the only thing i've heard of is putting a hair scrunchy up above the 1st fret if you're doing tapping to cut down on the noise. there's also people using various different objects as picks, like vilin bows and powerdrills, but that's probably not what you're thinking of either.

What's wrong with changing your guitar's 'timbre' using technique, different strings, different picks, different pickups, different effects? The only thing i've ever heard of like what you're talking about is the idea of clamping a heavy weight to the headstock to increase sustain.
Members Pascal Posted January 31, 2008 Members Posted January 31, 2008 Search for videos of Fred Frith or Keith Rowe on youtube. I remember seeing samples from a Frith workshop, but live videos will give you ideas too. You might be lucky with articles/interviews too.
Members Pascal Posted January 31, 2008 Members Posted January 31, 2008 Oh, I remember seeing also a few Marc Ribot videos (solo concerts) where he plays some.
