Members rwenji Posted February 26, 2008 Members Posted February 26, 2008 to some of the experienced players here: do you know the term for what this player is demonstrating in this video? and if so, how could i learn how to play it?
Members starsailor803 Posted February 26, 2008 Members Posted February 26, 2008 Seems like he's just playing around the chords and scales. The delay effect is what makes it seem more complex. Try using a delay pedal set up for dotted 8th notes and it will be a starting point.
Members Jasco Posted February 26, 2008 Members Posted February 26, 2008 He's noodling with an echo pedal. Seems cool, but in reality is pretty easy.
Members gennation Posted February 26, 2008 Members Posted February 26, 2008 He using what seems to be an E drone note and playing out of a couple of different scales or modes. If I had my guitar I could pick some of this out for you. Off the top of my ear, I hear E Minor (Natural Minor I believe), and C Lydian. But there a couple of parts where he's playing an intervalized chord progression. He has his delay set to slapback (I would guess around 200-250ms delay) with about 2-3 feedback notes. There's is some "noodling" but he's playing many preconceived patterns, and is outlining chords and progressions with large intervals being the notes he's choosing. So, I would say about 90% is planned and 10% might be noodling...although he's a little rough around the edges so maybe none of it is noodling and it's just not accurate.
Members rwenji Posted February 26, 2008 Author Members Posted February 26, 2008 it sounds good, most of these terms go right over my head though
Members Schecter5 Posted February 29, 2008 Members Posted February 29, 2008 Drop D, Delay pedal, add noodles, stir 20 minutes
Members Jesse G Posted February 29, 2008 Members Posted February 29, 2008 it sounds good, most of these terms go right over my head though He's using a delay pedal...which makes the notes echo...he's made the tempo of his song to where each echo lands on an eighth note. Or in other words, he's set the time between echoes to be eighth notes of the piece he's playing. Here's a video of me doing something similar, using an echo to "add notes"
Members R. Chapman Posted February 29, 2008 Members Posted February 29, 2008 Sorry, can't see the youtube link while I'm at work...but from the description it sounds like the type of thing Edge would do with U2... Randy

But, this guy gets a little more "technical" then the nice parts The Edge lays out. But, this guys got some cool things going on.
