Members DannnUK Posted March 10, 2008 Members Posted March 10, 2008 Hi, first time post . Having some troubles with chord construction lately, just looking for a hand or some links that could expand further as my teacher is on holiday . I understand the formulas etc 1 b3 5 = minor, but i am struggling to apply these formulas. Eg. 'b'3' are you flattening by half a step? Sorry if im unclear, Cheers

Members bdemon Posted March 10, 2008 Members Posted March 10, 2008 I understand the formulas etc 1 b3 5 = minor, but i am struggling to apply these formulas. Eg. 'b'3' are you flattening by half a step? Yes! So for example you've got C major: 1 3 5 = C E G. C minor would be 1 b3 5 = C Eb G.
Members gennation Posted March 10, 2008 Members Posted March 10, 2008 Read through my Advanced to Beginners Series at my lesson site. It'll put everything into perspective, and then some. http://lessons.mikedodge.com I recommend you start with the Intervals then move to Chord Construction, you're gonna want the Interval concepts first, it will help you with the basics of Major and Minor Chord Family. Then the Chord Construction link will take you deep into building MANY different types of chords.
Members sumpm1 Posted March 11, 2008 Members Posted March 11, 2008 I was just going to suggest gen's site. It's pretty much par to take this advice first, and you will see that in all other theory advice threads. Gen is such a good guy for making all of this material that is helpful with theory, and he is always here helping out. Thanks Gen!
Members Schecter5 Posted March 11, 2008 Members Posted March 11, 2008 The numbers tell you what notes of the scale to play, I think you know that already. If you see just a 1 3 5 by itself asumme it's major unless noted otherwise.
