Members rwenji Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 i'm learning a few solos with the lead singer of our band, and i was wondering what the best way to manipulate an mp3 file would be, ways to slow down the audio play and to create loops for phrases til we get them down. suggestions

Members Harry-L Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 Are you using Windows? Windows Media player will slow down to 1/2 speed in 10% decrements.
Members RenegadeMinds Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 Well, my old personal favorite is Guitar & Drum Trainer. But I've just put out GDT v4 Open Beta 1. It's my new personal favorite! New stuff in v4 lets you filter out instruments better. There's center & non-center panned removal, but combining it with the 62 band stereo EQ gives much better results. You can also save slowed down & pitch shifted music now in FLAC format, or MP3 if you copy LAME.EXE to the program folder. There's a ton more stuff in it too.
Members Cogwulf Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 windows media player distorts too much after a small change in speed. audacity is good and its free, I think I heard the new version can filter out different instruments as well, but I havent checked it out yet
Members wavedalton Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 I'm pretty happy with Amazing Slowdowner I use this too, and don't have any problems with it. Wasn't free, though, if I'm remembering right.

Wasn't free, though, if I'm remembering right. But you just haven't tried my stuff! But seriously, there are free solutions to help out like Audacity and others. I've got a free version available from some places. ASD isn't free. (Well, my current stuff isn't free either.) But there are good reasons usually for why software isn't free. (Like it takes a ton of work and people need to eat! ) But definitely check out what's out there and see what fits your needs. I've got a lot of pros using my software. Learners too. But it's not for everyone. The most important thing is that you find whatever you can work with best.
Members irvingklaws Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 Another vote for Amazing Slow Downer. I bought and used it, but then lost my computer in a crash a while later. I didn't have a spare copy but I emailed the guy (ronni music?) and he sent me another copy no problem. Great tool, but I haven't really tried any others.I'm hoping someday someone makes a little app for an iTouch (or similar device) that does the same kind of thing. How cool would that be (if it's possible)?
Members SDshirtman Posted April 26, 2008 Members Posted April 26, 2008 If you open an mp3 in quick time you can slow it way down while maintaining pitch.
Members Ericjake Posted April 26, 2008 Members Posted April 26, 2008 I'm happy with Chronotron and LoopMaster plugins for Winamp. All for free!
Members 1001gear Posted April 27, 2008 Members Posted April 27, 2008 Are you using Windows? Windows Media player will slow down to 1/2 speed in 10% decrements. This bothers me somewhat. I'm of the opinion that while reducing and decrementing are synonymous, the intervals of reduction are still increments. (?)
Members palefacedloser Posted April 27, 2008 Members Posted April 27, 2008 check out guitar pro, it might have something like that.
