Members jonfinn Posted May 17, 2008 Members Posted May 17, 2008 Of course there's no "Best Chord"! But if you think for 5 seconds or less, you'll answer that question with that "one cool chord you always gravitate to"! If this thread is populated by a collection of those, it will become an awesome "Lesson Loft" resource. Guidelines: -Post your Best chord (with the fingering included) with a short explanation of why it's the "best." -Discussions over who's "best" is better are discouraged. -Discussions over chord theory are discouraged (the goal is to create a thread of thousands of cool chord voicings that we can all pick through). -Everyone is encouraged to participate. Everyone. It doesn't mater how long you've been playing. -No chord is too simple to the the best. If it's E5, then it's E5! -Only one "best chord" per post. Multiple consecutive posts by one person are discouraged. If you're tempted, take a moment and choose which is really your "best" I'll start in the next post. Please use it as your model. Thanks and have fun! Jon
Members jonfinn Posted May 17, 2008 Author Members Posted May 17, 2008 The best chord is C#m7 played like this: -0--0--6--6--4--x- Because I sound like I'm good when I play it!
Moderators Jed Posted May 17, 2008 Moderators Posted May 17, 2008 My best chord is Cmaj7/E played like this: -x--8--5--9--7--0- Because it sounds stable yet conflicted, resolved yet tense.

Poparad Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I've been favoring this lately, which can be a lot of different chords: x4363x It can be: Abmaj7, Cm7, Fm7, Gm(phrygian), Ebsus, Bb7sus, and probably a few altered dominants.

Members JohnPW Posted May 18, 2008 Members Posted May 18, 2008 Got to be G for me. It was really the first chord I learned and got really good at switching to other chords from it. 300023
Members c+t in b Posted May 18, 2008 Members Posted May 18, 2008 Bb Maj 9 no 5th (W or W/O #11) (12/0)13141213x
Members Stazinish Posted May 18, 2008 Members Posted May 18, 2008 All joking aside, I really do like an open D power chord with an A as the root. -x--x--x--0--0--x- Just mute the other strings an let that ring out. I love shaking the guitar for vibrato and letting it feedback.
Members jeremy_green Posted May 18, 2008 Members Posted May 18, 2008 Emajor with a lower octave E on the bottom ... preferably with the hammer on from the 9th fret . Just cause ---------------------9---------9---------9-h-11---0--------
Members cobalt-60 Posted May 18, 2008 Members Posted May 18, 2008 Got to be G for me. It was really the first chord I learned and got really good at switching to other chords from it.300023 That's the first thing I hit when I pick a guitar. You can always tell from the G if you'll like the sound - and if it's in tune!
