Members BlackHatHunter Posted May 26, 2008 Members Posted May 26, 2008 John Prine is a musical hero of mine. I place him as high as Johnny Cash, the Hoss, Willie, Townes Van Zant, JJ Cale and all those guys when it comes to song writing. I discovered him a long time ago via Austin City Limits when I still lived in Europe. How Britney Spears is a superstar, and John Prine is awful close to unknown in his own country is beyond me. Not unlike the afore-mentioned JJ Cale, many people know his songs - they just don't know he wrote it. I had a guy tell me that he liked "that Bonnie Raitt song" when I played Angel from Montgomery at an open mic night recently. Nothing against Bonnie, but come on Anyway, I digress... I recorded a video this afternoon on how to play Crazy as a Loon. I love that song - always have. It's witty, funny, and totally in character for Prine. It's a perfect example of his song writing all wrapped up into one song. I play it first all the way through, then discuss the chords and the finger picking.
