Members Annoying Twit Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 I'm having a bit of difficulty with the Day Tripper riff. I worked it out by ear, and am playing: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------2-------4-------4-------------2----5--2----2-5-------------2-4----------------------------5------------------------------ I'm holding the hand in a fixed position, so that if my first finger is on the second thret, and my fifth finger is on the fifth thret. I find it tricky to do the last 2-5--(up string)-4 because the 5 on the D string and the 4 on the G string both ring, then I have difficulty getting smoothly back to start the next iteration of the riff. Is my fingering or the way I'm playing the riff sub-optimal, and should be changed? Or do I just need to practice more?
Members gennation Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 If I recall correctly its... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------2--0-----4-----0--2--------------2--------2-----2------------0--3-4-------------------------- 2 3 2 2 2 3 2 2
Members Kuroyume Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 Yep, gennation is correct. Then you move down one string for the A riff in the same exact pattern and then back and then to F#m. ETA: Wow, I have so few posts almost to seem newbieish - I've been playing for 26 years.
Poparad Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I've always played it with a G natural as the 2nd note, and not F#, but I may have transcribed it incorrectly... Also, all of the 2nd finger notes I would use my 1st finger (perhaps yours is a typo?). Since it's two frets apart, I would use two fingers apart.
Members mc5nrg Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 Originally an electric blues riff generally credited to DC bluesman Bobby Parker.
Members mosiddiqi Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 I've always done it this way (same as Poparad I think) |--------------------------| |--------------------------| |--------------------------| |---------2-0---4---0-2---- |-------2-----2---2--------| |-0-3-4--------------------|
Members lazaraga Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 I've always done it this way (same as Poparad I think)|--------------------------||--------------------------||--------------------------||---------2-0---4---0-2----|-------2-----2---2--------||-0-3-4--------------------| correct. i prefer to fret the open notes.
Members gennation Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 Oops. I typed that wrong the second note should be a G. That is was I meant to type, there's only one way to play that correctly. I took the original posters tab and reworked it, but failed to change that note. I will correct it.
Members Kuroyume Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 And I was a bit tipsy and getting ready for bed. But the transposition was correct. I prefer no open D, barring the 2's on the A and D string: |--------------------------||--------------------------||--------------------------||---------2-----4------2---||-------2---5-2---2-5------||-0-3-4--------------------|
Members kmarsh Posted June 21, 2008 Members Posted June 21, 2008 .... Also, all of the 2nd finger notes I would use my 1st finger (perhaps yours is a typo?). Since it's two frets apart, I would use two fingers apart. That's the way I learned it:
Members Annoying Twit Posted June 22, 2008 Author Members Posted June 22, 2008 Thanks for all the feedback here. It's a lot easier to play with the open strings. But I also had the last note wrong. Even without using open strings, it's a lot easier to play with the correct last note instead of the wrong one.
