Members demonwarp Posted July 26, 2008 Members Posted July 26, 2008 Thread name says it all. I have tried a couple of different teachers in the Los Angeles area (I live in Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys) but they either have astronomical fee's after the first lesson, (60-125 an hour) or I just have not clicked with them. I am mostly into blues and classic rock like Hendrix and AC/DC. I am not a beginner but I have plateau'd at the intermediate level. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
Members 1001gear Posted July 26, 2008 Members Posted July 26, 2008 Take some legit general lessons. College instructors are usually very good with learners. You will have to open your mind but with a broadened knowledge base comes the potential to self improve.
Members demonwarp Posted July 26, 2008 Author Members Posted July 26, 2008 You mean sign up for legit college classes in guitar? I never though about that, there are a couple local community colleges that prolly offer classes.
Members 1001gear Posted July 26, 2008 Members Posted July 26, 2008 That or even start an AA in music. But do get connected with good instruction.
Members UnderTheGroove Posted July 30, 2008 Members Posted July 30, 2008 I teach at a place called Hollywood Academy of Music. We have a location in Hollywood on Melrose, and another in North Hollywood on Riverside Drive. All of the teachers are graduates of music schools. (Most of the guitar instructors went to Berklee or Musicians Institute). You could take a trial lesson to see if you are a good match with one of the instructors.

Members joblack Posted August 5, 2008 Members Posted August 5, 2008 Try this sofware for size www.yourgpp.comThere is a free beta download to try out.it's got no nonsence complete music theory plus all scales, arpeggios, technical development etc etc all in the form of practice routines. It's been designed by a world class professional guitar coach to help manage practice and learning. It's been designed to work in hand with guitar lessons but does a pretty good job on it's own too!
