Members jbviper4
I have been learning She Talks to Angels in open E, and started monkeying around in that tuning. Very cool jazzy stuff, even though I have very little idea what I am doing .....Any suggestions on something else cool to learn in that key? Thx... Members SteveWoodward
Ha, that's why I stopped fooling around with that song, it's no fun having to re-tune for one song! I think there's a goo goo dolls song in open E, I think the name is "Name", but I could be mistaken...
Members gennation
Eric Sardinas has a number of songs in open E. I'm pretty sure Daune Allman used that tuning too for a few classic tunes. Many people, instead of tuning "up to open E", will tune "down to open D" then put a capo at the second fret to achieve open E.
Members 335clone
Remember, anything in open E can be played in open D and vice versa. Duane Allman played quite a few songs in open E such as Little Martha, Statesborough Blues, Mellisa Quite a few Stones songs are in open E, or open G Dylans entire 'blood on the tracks album Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way Joni Mitchell Big Yellow Taxi Elmore James played mostly in open D, It hurts me too and Dust my Broom So is Cripple Creek
Members Chief Ten Beers
Duane Allman used open e for almost all of his his slide work and derek trucks uses it exclusively.i devoted one guitar to open e and am working my slide skills and also i've learned play all kinds of chords in the tuning.i'm actually having a lot of fun in open e and it's a refreshing challenge. Members SDshirtman
Thunderclap newman's "get together" and the Stones "Can't always get what you want." are the only two I can think of right now.

Thanks for the advice. That open E is a pain to achieve and keep in tune, and I like the looser feel of the drop D tuning.

Members chriscnb
Duane Allman played quite a few songs in open E such as Little Martha, Statesborough Blues, Mellisa Duane didn't play on Melissa...that's Dickey. The first 3 songs on Eat A Peach were recorded after Duane's death and the rest is with Duane. but those are great examples....I'd check out some Derek Trucks, who plays exclusively in E. Sahib Teri Bandi/Maki Madni is a great piece...
