Members ssureshot Posted January 17, 2009 Members Posted January 17, 2009 I can't quite understand the metronome or make it work for me to use in practice sessions. I understand the concept of what it's supposed to do but I just can't seem to use it. I want to work on my rhythm play and start incorporating it into my routine.. anyone have any tips? Maybe a video explaining rhythm ect.. Thanksssureshot
Moderators Jed Posted January 17, 2009 Moderators Posted January 17, 2009 Many people find it easier to start with a simple drum loop. Often that's easier to follow than a metronome. Slower tempos on the metronome are harder to follow than faster tempos. Try quarter note (one pulse per beat) or eight note (two pulses per beat) on the metronome while you play scales at quarter notes, try to concentrate on playing a close to the metronome as possible. With practice it gets easier, but it can be frustrating at first. Take it slow - it will come together for you. cheers,
Members R. Chapman Posted January 17, 2009 Members Posted January 17, 2009 Not alot of info. in the first one....but much better in the later parts of the series...plus a little bonus at the end if your a Rush fan. Part two gets in to actually practicing with the metronome and dividing things up..
Members jeremy_green Posted January 17, 2009 Members Posted January 17, 2009 A metronome shouldn't be confusing. Here it is in a nutshell. Put on your favorite song and tap your foot. Now turn off the music and keep tapping. That is a metronome. It really is no different that a drummer. Anything you can play with a song you can do with it. Fast tempos are better to start with. Set it high and play one note per click. Then two per. Once you feel it you'll have it
Members Steadfastly Posted January 17, 2009 Members Posted January 17, 2009 You're likely starting at too high a speed. Even if you can play at that speed without a metronome, it takes awhile to be able to play at that same speed with a metronome. Slow it down a bit and slowly speed it up. It will help you play more evenly and you'll soon be able to play up the speed with the metronome. It's just that it can be a little distracting at first. I like this online one the best because you can change the sound of the regular beats and also the sound of the 4th beat. http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/metronome.php
