Genre-defining pre-war acoustic country/blues

I'm learning acoustic blues and country and I'd like to hear suggestions on what are the best songs to learn to get a solid foundation of the style.

I already have a list of names (Charley Patton, Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, Tommy Johnson.... ) but I'd like to have names of the best songs to start with.

I'm mostly interested in the solo acoustic performers, not so much in the ones that did so with a full band behind.

Thanks in advance :)

of course, you could listen to a lot more than just those songs and you'll do well for yourself. honestly, what's wrong with a list of names? listen to a bunch and decide what works for you.

Thanks for the list.

I've got a massive list of names and I just don't know where to start. I've got a few of the albums but it's just too much, that's why I am looking for the "definitive" songs, so I can start from those.

I also have a list of a few songs I like ("Canned Heat" by Tommy Johnson, "Goodnight Irene" by Leadbelly, "Single Girl" by Ruby Vass).

I am listening to a few of the songs you suggested, thanks! :)
