Members rotren Posted June 18, 2009 Members Posted June 18, 2009 I made up a video lesson for this Stevie Ray Vaughan lick the other day, using my new HD camera and I also got a decent microphone for the camera. This is a lick that SRV often played variations on. I bet you recognize it. Have a listen to Texas Flood, for example. Comments welcome.
Members mosiddiqi Posted June 18, 2009 Members Posted June 18, 2009 Nice vid! ..I love that b9 move..gives it a nice jazzy flavour.

Members larryguitar Posted June 19, 2009 Members Posted June 19, 2009 I eagerly await every new lesson you post. For a variety of reasons, you demonstrate and describe these perfectly for the way I learn-thanks a million for the effort!
Members rotren Posted June 22, 2009 Author Members Posted June 22, 2009 Great to hear guys! I am glad it's working. If you have any suggestions for other guitar licks by other guitarists in a style I may be able to do, let me know.
Members lectrician Posted June 22, 2009 Members Posted June 22, 2009 Your description says it's in E but I know it's not E major 12, so I am assuming E minor 12? It seems to fit right.

If you have any suggestions for other guitar licks by other guitarists in a style I may be able to do, let me know.I'd love to see more funk rhythm guitar stuff and some jazz licks like the Parker lick.Once again, your site is absolutely fantasdic, so much great stuff from different styles, and like others said, you do explain stuff very thoroughly and easy to understand! Thanks for the great clips!!!

I think you mean it's a E minor Pentatonic at the 12 position? Yes, that is correct. He is also including a diatonic note (F#) and a chromatic passing tone (F) in this riff.
Members Kuroyume Posted June 22, 2009 Members Posted June 22, 2009 It's E minor Pentatonic at the 12 position - as noted several times. I'd like to see something more colorful and away from typical - but still blues. The one provided is just an augmented version of the blues pentatonic standard lick. Great for beginners though. I can play those types of things til the cows come home. Will have to check out your site for more inspiration.

Members Mr.Bates Posted June 24, 2009 Members Posted June 24, 2009 Good job, looks very professional, but - I think you should add a metronome to the lesson, because the lick doesnt start at the first beat...
Members Virgman Posted June 24, 2009 Members Posted June 24, 2009 It's Randy Rhoads in his avatar picture. Who's Randy Rhoads? Is he the guy who setup Rhoadesia and the Rhoads Scholarship? Did you know Bill Clinton was a Rhoads Scholar?

Members rotren Posted June 25, 2009 Author Members Posted June 25, 2009 Thanks guys, I often play this type of lick starting on the first beat, but this lick will work fine if you start on a different beat too. You can come up with lots of variations on this lick - just use your imagination and change the ending or the beginning as you feel fit. I guess it's a standard SRV lick and useful to know some of these, but I agree, it's not very original.
Members Kuroyume Posted June 25, 2009 Members Posted June 25, 2009 Yeah, but, at least you're putting this stuff out there. I found your little lesson on 'Cold Shot' very cool. You forced me to purchase it on iTunes and start learning it. Darn you! Another SRV song to put under the belt whether it's more difficult (Texas Flood) or not. Now I have your lessons bookmarked for perusal. Thanks!
