You need the right type axe (probably a Telecaster or Stratocaster), a good compression pedal, and a clean amp like the Fender Twin or any other Fender amp. Country lead playing is completely different than rock lead guitar in that you phrase differently and change scale with each chord change. You also have different licks to learn and will use multi-string fills as you play along in the background. You will need to learn how to do "steel-guitar" type swells where you bend one string with another. The major scales is used most commonly but you sometimes use minor scales as well. That's just a few tidbits. I'm still learning as I go along...
