That is really pretty, I'm not sure what the hell it is.

still looking at it though.

(edit)

I have to assume that you could use E minor or G major over it. He has got lot of chromatic stuff in there so it makes it hard to say for sure, but with the E minor and G major at the book ends, I have to assume that is where it is. Dude is just breaking the rules and making it sound kick ass. Not sure you could just put a key over that one though.

thanks for posting it!

(2nd edit) somewhere along the line I remember someone saying that that was a Beatles riff, I have no idea if that is accurate though.

Are you asking "what key it is in" or "which scale should I use to jam over it".

I'd use C minor pent to jam over most of it, for the G & Em use Eminr pent.

For ease, go for Eb Major pent (same notes a Cm) and E Minor pent, then you haven't got to change positions.

I could be talking out my arse but I'm bored at work.

Look at the prgression like this and it makes more sense:

Em - Eb - Bb - D - Ab - Eb - Cm - Ab - G

Em - Eb - Bb - D - Ab - Eb - Cm - Ab - G

This is one of my favorite parts of Blood Sugar Sex magic...

Start in Em (Dorian is fine), then Go to Eb Lydian for the Eb (and stay there for Bb... it's the same as Bb Major), Then D major to Ab Lydian (staying on it for Eb major, C minor, Ab major) then G Major or Lydian leading back to the top...

This is modal interchange at its finest (eventhough they don't necessarily know it...)
