Some of that stuff was incredible. I wish the video wasn't so choppy so that I could follow your hands better. (You must have been blazing cause lots of it was just a blur) Awesome - thanks!
Members meganutt7 Posted December 20, 2009 Members Posted December 20, 2009 Thanks, bro... Hopefully it helps.. The cam sucks, I know, but I try to explain it finger-wise and all the technical details... Hope it helps you guys get into some alternative techniques...
Members Frankenstrat86 Posted December 20, 2009 Author Members Posted December 20, 2009 you explain it really well so that makes it easy to follow. I'll be trying your method on top of what I know and post an update vid.

Members meganutt7 Posted December 21, 2009 Members Posted December 21, 2009 Your vid is good, overall. On a technical level, as far as slapping is concerned, I have a couple of constructive criticisms... 1. It seems your hands are really hitting hard, which is not a bad thing, but it seems that you're lacking in efficiency of motion. The result sounds a little bit jerky and uneven, which brings me to point #2. 2. The timing is a bit off, meaning the groove is not in the pocket. It needs to be really accurate and adhere to the "16th note grid" better. The solution for this is simple.... a) Play with a metronome and focus on hitting all the subdivisions well; b) play with a drummer. A good one; c) BEFORE you begin playing, close your eyes and VISUALIZE a drummer, a good one, playing a righteous beat for you to jam over, then try to play the same groove again, but with the imaginary drums you hear in your head. I GUARANTEE that if you do JUST THAT your grooving will improve IMMENSLEY in a short period of time. I think that overall your inventiveness and ideas are nice, plus I like your axe. Very nice.... Anyways, I hope this helps and that I am not coming off too critical. Just trying to help out, my brother.

The only part that's giving me trouble is always efficiently using my left hand to dead the notes. It's not that I'm making any of the strings ring but it's not very audible like the way yours is. Thanks again
Members meganutt7 Posted December 21, 2009 Members Posted December 21, 2009 It helps to have slightly lower action to get that fretting hand "dead note" sound... Also, your hand just needs to get used to that motion, as it is one that we rarely use as guitarists... I thin kthat with practice, you will find that it becomes far more audible... Also, just come up with various grooves that force you to utilize all the different techniques so that eventually they all become fair game in an improvisational context. If you work out doing fast sextuplets, slap harmonics, maybe some tapping, harp harmonics, etc. it will really make the end result rich and musical. That said, the efficiency of the dead notes is a matter of really learning the movement and refining it for a week or two.. I guarantee you that in a week or two (if you practice it diligently enough) you will have it down pretty damn well!!! It really isn't rocket science.... Good luck, my brother. Happy Holidays.

Members meganutt7 Posted December 22, 2009 Members Posted December 22, 2009 I wish I understood how to embed videos better. It'd be way easier if people just saw it on here rather than having to click a link or copy all that code. I am just an ignoramus.
