Members 1001gear Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Guy absolutely gushes hot. Love that ending. I have better things to be depressed at.
Members Jasco Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Great video - thanks Virg. Here's another cool version of the same tune:
Members Alex_DeLarge Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 I liked Jasco's video more than the first For me srv version is the best one out there, but I think it'd be better with vocals on it. I love how Jimi sings in the original tune.
Members Yngtchie Blacksteen Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 I seriously dislike that version.
Members 1001gear Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Awesome colors in that one. If I may be a bit hypocritical, this one sounds like an over done version of the SRV version. The guy comes off as a really talented guitarist stuck in a world of bad music. To be fair I do like the parts that do work and I take the Verheyen clip in a separate context - hot guitarist, showin' off.
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 Gee, there must be something wrong with me. I like it. I thought it was excellent! Beautiful! That's an interesting guitar he's got. I've never seen one like it. Anybody know what kind it is?
Members mosiddiqi Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 I enjoyed both of those..but this is my favourite version of almost "Little Wing".....
Members 1001gear Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 This one's magic.
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 Hey, that's an album I wore out on the old hi-fi in the 70's. It's funny but when I listen to that album now it seems so tame. Back then it seemed really wild.

Back then it seemed really wild. I didn't think you'd be old enough to remember it.. It is quite laid back for a hard rock album overall I think..but Blackmore is stellar on it..as usual ...the solo on "Catch the Rainbow" is so tasty and restrained.
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 I used to listen to "Man On The Silver Mountain" over and over. I probably didn't listen to the rest of the album! Dio! Remember these?
Members mosiddiqi Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 ^^^ ..something very similar to that was my first guitar amp, a Fidelity record player with awesome natural distortion
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 Wow! Jasco just turned me on to Monte Montgomery! Check this out with him playing Sara Smile with Daryl Hall. Beautiful song and pretty simple too. Play along BbM7 - FM7 pretty much. A great song and only two chords really. Yeah!
Members Jasco Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 I 'discovered' Monte because I was on a festival bill with him in Tulsa in 98' or 99'. Great player, but he had a bit of an attitude. Well deserved though, I guess.

Members 3shiftgtr Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Monte's guitar is an old Alvarez. And he can be a bit gruff, but he's been slugging it out in the trenches for 20 years...and ain't got much to show for it...packs houses, and can't sell a record. And makes good ones too. And for those of you who haven't checked out Verhayen...go buy his live disc right {censored}ing now. He combines it all: taste, flash, style, touch, heart, soul....the cat just does it right.
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 Carl Verheyen's bio from his website: Incredible! http://www.carlverheyen.com/bio.htm
Members Jasco Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 And he can be a bit gruff, but he's been slugging it out in the trenches for 20 years...and ain't got much to show for it...packs houses, and can't sell a record. And makes good ones too. Well I only met him that once, so I can't really judge his character fairly. It could have just been a bad day. However, I don't buy the "slugging it out for many years with nothing to show" excuse, cause I know many great players who've been slugging it out for longer than him who have great attitudes. I've also met some well known players, who I won't name here, who have had repeated bad attitudes at festivals that I've been on the bill with, stemming from them thinking they're not getting their due. (It takes about 4 or more repeat episodes for me to catagorize a cat as an A-hole.) I think it all boils down to the reason you play music - for the love of it, or for the "fame game".
Members Virgman Posted January 6, 2010 Author Members Posted January 6, 2010 If you have the "asshole gene" it's hard to beat it.
Members jonfinn Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Carl's a good friend of mine. We met years ago because we were both signed to the same label at the same time. The label accidently sent each of us the wrong contract. He read mine and I read his. Then we called each other and compared notes. That enabled both of us to go back the label and say, "Hey, you gave HIM this and you didn't give it to me???" We had a good laugh. Carl's a true musician in my book. He's as good as he is because of his natural talent, love for music, self-discipline, generosity, and solid work-ethic. Every time I hear him play, it inspires me to go wayyy beyond what I can currently do because he shows me that it's possible.
Members bgator Posted January 7, 2010 Members Posted January 7, 2010 Call me crazy, but I still like Jimi's version best. I really think it's the simplicity that makes the song. The melody is sort of longing and maybe even haunting with nothing too busy to distract from it. I enjoy SRV's version as well as many others', but I've never heard anything that's eclipsed the original.
