Members CarmenJuandeago Posted January 14, 2010 Members Posted January 14, 2010 like right now i can only hit them maybe 70% of the time i want to hit them....
Poparad Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 There's basically three things that need to happen: 1) Right hand technique - having the right positioning of your thumb or finger over the pick to produce the harmonic 2) Correct positioning of the right hand - each note has specific spots where the harmonics will jump out, and it takes some memorizing to find them consistently 3) Tone/Setup - using the right pickup/tone/amp settings combination can make a huge difference in how much the harmonics will jump out or get buried in your playing.
Members TrickyBoy Posted January 14, 2010 Members Posted January 14, 2010 I think Virgman said it best: There's no substitute for... ...playing something a million times. If you can hit them 70% o the time, you probably have the right technique. Now it's just a matter of practice. Listen to Zakk Wilde's stuff with Ozzy. Play like that and shoehorn harmonics into everything. They'll happen.
Members mosiddiqi Posted January 14, 2010 Members Posted January 14, 2010 Pop and Tricky nailed it..once you've got the basic technique down..just keep doing it. I put them into everything I played for a while just so I was confident that I could hit them whenever I wanted.

Members Still.ill Posted January 16, 2010 Members Posted January 16, 2010 should one like memorize all those positions?
Members 1001gear Posted January 16, 2010 Members Posted January 16, 2010 Assuming your technique is good... This is the truth. Embellishments like pinches depend on the stability of your picking. If you pick "ok", micro techniques like pinch harmonics will always be haphazard.
