Members Alex_DeLarge Posted February 19, 2010 Members Posted February 19, 2010 I was reading about George Benson (after reading another link pointed out by Jasco in the left hand technique thread) and it says that he uses this kind of picking, but I don't know how its done or what really is a rest-stroke picking hehe. It is just picking one string and then the following string stops the motion ? What are the advantages/uses?? If someone can explain it I'd appreciate it a lot Thanks.
Poparad Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Yeah, that's pretty much it, although with Benson, there's a huge thing about the angle/posture of his picking hand that is the real defining factor about his technique. The advantage of rest strokes is you can play with a large dynamic range without sacrificing control. No matter how hard to pick the string, it's going to be stopped by the string above it, so you don't have to worry about your hand flying away from the guitar and losing control and accuracy.
Members Alex_DeLarge Posted February 19, 2010 Author Members Posted February 19, 2010 But the rest-stroke is done with every single picked note? Or just from time to time? Even when he's playing really really fast he still does the rest-stroke?? This is because just by watching I thing his right hand posture is a little similar tu mine. I angle the pick up and my hand posture is a bit like his, so I figured I could take advantage if I learne the rest-stroke technique. Thanks in advance
