Members mosiddiqi Posted March 23, 2010 Members Posted March 23, 2010 Hey guys, just got back from a very enjoyable short break to Rome..fantastic city, awesome sights and the best pizza and ice cream!. Anyway, the lesson for today ..is that sometimes getting out into the real world, visiting new places and living...is the best lesson you can have. I feel really inspired by all the great art we saw, particularly works by Caravaggio and Brueghel....and ready to make some music!
Members mosiddiqi Posted March 23, 2010 Author Members Posted March 23, 2010 I tell ya Virg...seeing something like this (Trevi fountain) makes me want to shred the Lydian Mode.

Mo, you've been missed mate - I was after some advice about right hand accuracy and wondered where you were. I got some sagely advice from the usual top bananas, but your opinions were noticeable by their absence So how was Rome, tell us more. Top of my wish list of the few European capitals I've not visited. I've heard it's {censored}ing amazing, but overpriced and not overly friendly to non-Italian speakers. Hasn't put me off from going though, so pray tell all about your trip

Hasn't put me off from going though, so pray tell all about your trip Hey Jon!..I'll respond in your thread..I'm sure the guys got you covered though ..Rome is expensive..like any major European city really..but not too bad I didn't think..a good, simple dinner with wine will be around 40 euros for two....and we found the people very warm and friendly. In terms of sight-seeing, I think it's hard to beat. Definitely go!
Members jonPhillips Posted March 23, 2010 Members Posted March 23, 2010 Oh yes, I'll be going at some point, but post MOAR PIKS
Members Virgman Posted March 23, 2010 Members Posted March 23, 2010 I tell ya Virg...seeing something like this (Trevi fountain) makes me want to shred the Lydian Mode. Nice pic. I think I've seen it in some movies. You jumped in didn't you? Post more pics! I've been reading Plutarch's "Roman Lives". Gives interesting insight into the Roman Empire. Many similarities to present day politics. Probably really grab you since you went there. Did you fly there or drive?
Members mosiddiqi Posted March 23, 2010 Author Members Posted March 23, 2010 We flew..just 2 and a half hours away..this was just some random courtyard that caught our eye..I mean, there were just offices around it..but typical of Rome, there was this amazing looking feature right by these normal offices..
Members Virgman Posted March 23, 2010 Members Posted March 23, 2010 That must be old. Is it from Roman times?
Members mosiddiqi Posted March 23, 2010 Author Members Posted March 23, 2010 That must be old. Is it from Roman times? We didn't ask ..but the city is full of ancient stuff..just mindblowing. I haven't sorted out all our pics yet, but I'll post more when I do...oh, this one was inside the Pantheon..hard to get across the scale..it's massive..a temple to the Roman Gods and still almost completely intact..
Members GreenAsJade Posted March 23, 2010 Members Posted March 23, 2010 Since when does Virg ask for pics ?! Virg _posts pics_ !!!

Members Virgman Posted March 24, 2010 Members Posted March 24, 2010 The Pantheon is fantastic. Just think. All built by hand too. Wow.
Members 3shiftgtr Posted March 24, 2010 Members Posted March 24, 2010 Bringing inspiration TO the music.... Nothing recently architecture-wise for me but...non musical inspiration in the last 10 years? A Dali exhibit at the Chicago Art Museum. Holy sh*t, Batman. Holy 'effin sh*t. His stuff just SURROUNDS you in his dream-logic....I stood in front of a few of them for like 20 minutes each. Sheesh....inspiring. I recently read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It was the most inspiring piece of literary art I'd ever read. Intense and dark yet beautiful and life affirming. He'd drop these lines at the end of a paragraph that were just f*cking stunning. If you are a father, the book will stick with you like glue. Jeez...it slayed me...stayed with me for weeks. I still get chicken skin thinking about it. (btw y'all, chicken skin is southern vernacular for 'cold chills') And the Grand Canyon. Um, just go. Just go to it. If you live in America, go to it. Please. Just go. If you have any depth and sensitivity to you at all, you'll be a changed person. I was there for 3 days. Um, just go.
