How To Use A Slide

I was learning some scratchy slide stuff by Mick Taylor last winter but was drinking like Keith Richards. I stumbled on a melody hook and and just recorded and improv with it to get the idea hook captured. I used to play slide a lot but only a couple of times a year for myself these days except for what might be needed on a gig of something.

I like slide work to be nice and off the cuff with nothing clean at all. I like loose like the old stuff and acoustic where they would fall on their face and pick themselves right back up and play forward again. I like it so scratchy that I had a guy me a copper slide back in 1986 and it's still the slide I use, nice and nasty sounding!

This is just purely scratchy slide improv, again to cop the melody that I stumbled on...I probably shouldn't really be posting this...but what the hey, huh? You might call this, How Not To Use A Slide ;)

Mike,

That was some neat 'ol blues going on there.

Thx Virg. "Drunk Man Slidin'", that's what I'll call it ;)

One cool thing to do with a slide is, play slide with an Ebow!!! You can get some mega cool stuff with that combo. You can get a Fripp meets Hackett thing going.
