Members NorthernPaul
Hi Lads (and lasses!), I'm working on my music reading using Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and near the end of book one, is Minuet in G by Bach. I reckon it's probably simplified a bit as it's a beginners book, but it sounds really lush and I am really enjoying learning the piece. I love the way it makes me 'feel' and it's giving me a real sense of achievement as I progress. I have never really listened to classical music, so my knowledge is very limited. Does anyone have a recommendation of more of a similar standard and style that I'll be able to buy/download the sheet music for? I know Jeremy posted a great site on his blog the other day, but I honestly don't know where to start in amongst that lot, there is a ton of stuff and I don't know what I'm looking for:confused: Thanks for reading, and also for any suggestions:) Paul
Members Shadowdusk
I can recommend two pieces I think you would enjoy learning - Pachabell's canon in D ( not sure how it's spelled ) and Bach's bouree in E minor.
Members NorthernPaul
Nice one, those should keep me going for a while:thu: I honestly never thought I liked music like this, but learning guitar has opened my eyes to so much new stuff! Thanks again, Paul
Members meganutt7
Paul, there are MANY great pieces for guitar.... You can get the Carcassi studies for guitar... They are studies, moreso than PIECES, but they sound great, they gradually increase in difficulty AND they all help refine specific techniques... So it 's aWin-Win-Win situation. As far as some easy pieces... Lagrima and Adelita are both very nice and easy. Greensleeves.... Those should be good for a start...
Members windmill
"I honestly never thought I liked music like this," Great music is great music You have been listening to it all your life particularly in TV adverts and in movies without realising what it was. Oh and in a lot of popular music where it has been... ahem... "appropriated "

One of the first pieces I learned on classical. I've heard recordings of it with different tempos. Some slow, but personally I think bourree's should be played like this
Members NorthernPaul
get the Carcassi studies for guitar... Thanks for the suggestion! Would THIS book be the best or would you recommend another? @Windmill: Yeah, I agree with what you say, it's just not something I would usually stick on the hifi to chill with. I was just surprised at how much I enjoyed playing it:) EDIT: I'm wondering whether I actually made a mistake by saying 'classical' guitar, the vid posted above is amazing but way out of my league. The piece from my Hal Leonard book was more playing the 'lead' guitar with no fingerpicking. Saying that, I'd love to be able to play stuff like that so I've got to start somewhere! I picked up the Carcassi etudes and it's great--fantastic reading and technique practice for a relative beginner. Fun stuff

Thanks Jasco:thu: Whilst searching for that piece I discovered THIS site which has a lot free pdf's for a lot of classical stuff. There are a few dead links for the pdf's but someone may find it useful. Romance was on there, so I'll be trying it out. Paul
