Members chriis20 Posted March 5, 2011 Members Posted March 5, 2011 Hey, I'm new to the forum and I have a little request. See, I'm from a small country and there's not a lot of tabs for our songs on the web. I consider myself an average guitarist, been playing for a year and a half. I can find chords, but solos aren't my thing.. (I lurk on the web for tabs) So I have come here seeking help from someone that can tab a small 30 second solo from a video on Youtube. Chords I was able to find out. E and A, and sometimes a D.the solo starts at 1:41 and ends at about 2:05.If anyone could help out, that would be awsome!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_-u-tY-IJU If you can't/don't want to tab out the whole solo, just give me a hint on what string and fret the solo startsat... Yeah, I actually can't even figure that out..And don't listen to the lyrics because you won't understand anything probably. Thank you in advance!
Members GreenAsJade Posted March 5, 2011 Members Posted March 5, 2011 Welcome, and congrats on your well phrased question See, I'm from a small country and there's not a lot of tabs for our songs on the web. This doesn't matter: there's not a lot of decent TAB for _any_ songs on the web, and it's better for your guitar playing to figure it out for yourself anyhow If you can't/don't want to tab out the whole solo, just give me a hint on what string and fret the solo start The first lick is: Notice how it's outlining the shape of the A chord: 5 5 6 7 7 5 Hope this gets you going GaJ
Members Sean0913 Posted March 6, 2011 Members Posted March 6, 2011 Taking over where GaJ left off, and I agree with the accuracy of their transcription. I think this song is for a steel or slide guitar, but this is an approximation of more of it. b means bend, r means release. the end bend at 12 is to bend to 14, which is why I notated it. / means to slide into. Best, Sean
Members chriis20 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Members Posted March 6, 2011 Haha, thanks guys! I started messing around with my guitar and about 10 minutes after I posted this, I had found out the beginning lick. About an hour later I had the whole solo! This probably goes faster with years of practice so yeah, just humour me. Thank you again! Will try to do this more often WITHOUT posting on the forum asking for tabs!
Members GreenAsJade Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 Yay for you - it's not that hard, once you get going eh? If you get stuck, for sure come and holler for help. Cheers, GaJ
Members ednakayama Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 So who is this Slovenian Duane Allman?
Members Jasco Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 You guys are getting soft around here.
Members jeremy_green Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 Dude get yourself a copy of Transcribe! software... it is awesome.
Members jonPhillips Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 You guys are getting soft around here. LOL
Members gennation Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 You guys are getting soft around here. I think they are just helping
Members chriis20 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Members Posted March 7, 2011 Lol, ednakayama. when I saw the picture I went with Slovenian "Chuck Norris". He does look like a bit like Duane Allman., though. Anyway, it's just a song I wanted to learn because a good friend of mine liked it, so I thought I'd surprise him/her. (I'll leave you guessing..) Thanks for the laughs, too!
Members Sean0913 Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 Mike, you are a good example to follow buddy, you've made me think more times than once, on how to better help others, even though there are certain things, and ways I do things that I cannot freely share, there are plenty of things I can do still to help people, such as mentoring. You know who I am and what I stand for, not from this site, but the "other one". I actually came here because I need more opportunities, seems like the "other site" is finally getting good information and has dealt with a lot of the ignorance that was there when I first arrived over a year ago. I need an active "help me" community Most of the people we used to see asking for help, are turned around facing the right direction now, and are now able to help others. Sean

Sean What is the "other" site? PM me if you want.
Members Sean0913 Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 You're already on that site, I've seen you post there before in Musician's Talk. That's been my home for the past year (and 2300) posts. That's also where I first met Mike. Sean
Members Jasco Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 I think they are just helping I don't know if it is helping to give someone tabs. It certainly placates them. It goes back to the old debate about "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."Giving someone a tab to a song, to me, is the equivalent to 'giving a man a fish'. I'm of the opinion that teaching someone to transcribe things themself is a much more valuable lesson.Although most folks today are in the instant gratification camp and protest violently when a suggestion of actually working to earn something is presented.
Members GreenAsJade Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 ^^^ This topic, of course, has been well thrashed out in "the other" thread. I think this thread struck the balance well: the OP asked the right question ("Please help me get started") and we exactly did that. The OP ended up figuring out the solo for themselves: the perfect outcome. do you have transcribe? I was going to suggest this as well, until I went and listened to the song the OP was learning. It's so slow Transcribe is not necessary :) GaJ
