How to create, understand and play major scales! (anyone can do it!)

Hey everyone,

I've just finished putting together my next series of guitar videos.

This time we're looking at the theory of how to understand and create major scales.

Then how you apply that to other scales. Every week I'll be doing more scales and modes, but it all starts with the major scale.

After this bit of theory I show you how to play the scales on the guitar neck.

The first video explains all the theory:

The second video takes the major scale and shows you how to play it on the guitar neck:

My next project will be explaining how to find notes on the neck. Chord theory and the skills to create any chord without memorising a million shapes on the neck

If this all interests you, subscribe to see more.

Sincerely,

Pat

Cant see the green writing, close up on fre...oh you doing that...Wow how many scales do I practice now..magic. I knew you were clever when you done those 2 min things, trying to demistify things, it just came across a little too jokey to this middle aged bore. That was fun, think Ive got the munchies now though..

Those other scales will include sharps in the same pattern though..?

Pretty much perfect to me...thanks, must have taken some effort.

thank you so much, a ways above where i am at. But i enjoyed how you break it down and explain it. A good portion sunk in with a first viewing :)

For me, just wish the hands could keep up with the mind.

Thanks for the kind words Andy,

As long as one person gets something out of my video's I'll always keep creating,

Yeah that green pen was a bad choice, it's gone now don't worry!

Yep you were right on the money the two minute video's were just to get people started,

Now it's into the more important things, playing and more importantly understanding and creating full 2 octave scales.

Some of the other scales will include sharps (i always start with C major as a reference), but don't worry i'll explain it all each week

Once all the big scale/mode video's are done. I'll go onto a big series on chord theory. Making chords instead of memorising a million shapes.

And finally both series will join because you will have the knowledge of how to construct scales and then the knowledge of what chords work over them and why.

Thanks again mate.

You've very welcome mate, trust me having all this knowledge will really help your progress with the guitar.

it all just takes time unfortunately mate, play everything as slow and as cleanly as you can. Use a metronome as much as you can!

Using the metronome will really sync your inner rhythm and timing. Making it easier for you to stay in time when there isn't one,

Also a metronome is a great way to develop speed, and even work on chord changes:

here's a free one:

Keep at it mate!
