Members freakinawesome Posted May 22, 2011 Members Posted May 22, 2011 Hi everyone,Love this site. Especially this section where people take so much time to give out free advice and help. I've learned so much from you so thank you!! I'm an average player, but am happy with what I can play apart from when I listen to Bonamassa lol But then he's in a different league. Anyway, I saw this the other day and really want to know what Sambora is playing in the fast run at the end of the solo. He does it live for Living on a prayer and a couple other songs I could use it for. Solo starts at 2.55 and the fast run is at 3.14. Does anyone know what he's playing here or able to give some help to the scale? [video=youtube;VtZFR61H7Rs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtZFR61H7Rs Thanks again for all the advice over the years.

Members freakinawesome Posted May 23, 2011 Author Members Posted May 23, 2011 Thanks for the reply 1001gear, I can't hear it either. I only really know the first position, can you tell which pentatonic shape I should be aiming for? I really should get to grips with pentatonics perhaps.....
Members 1001gear Posted May 23, 2011 Members Posted May 23, 2011 The instructors and rockers here are better prepared to set you right on this. IMO though, a run like this should not be a concern. Work on the basic patterns - once those get in your hands and head, you'll be able to hear the outline of runs like the example and fill in the blanks with little difficulty.
Members mosiddiqi Posted May 23, 2011 Members Posted May 23, 2011 I haven't got a guitar with me to check exactly, but it's somewhere in this ball park: Do yourself a huge favour, download this: http://www.seventhstring.com/ Slow the track down, and see how far off I was ...probably a fair bit ..but I'm sure it's around the above..just a 3 note per string pattern kinda round the pentatonic/aeolian scales..but more a shape than anything...I think...it sits nicely under the fingers and you can just blaze it out without thinking too much and it sounds cool. Perfect.

I just bought a Pentatonic dvd. It goes through the shapes and gives really great detailed advice. Should've done this ages ago!I think the problem is I've only really learned solos without knowing why I'm at a certain point on the neck. You're so right 1001gear - learn why the notes are at a point on the neck, then fill in like you said. Again, so many thanks to you for advice through the years (and for bearing with me on this one!!!)
